I'm feeling really old!

I remember asking my grandma on her 92nd birthday what it felt like to be 92. She told me she was a 50 year old woman trapped in a 92 year old body. I got quite the chuckle --could be because I was in my early forties at the time. I'm not laughing now. I didn't have a problem turning forty, even fifty, but sixty made me feel old. Hard to believe that I was that age---where did the time go? BUT it is even worse thinking I have to sign up for Social Security today. Good grief!! I'm becoming my parents and grandparents. So this morning I was determined to find something good about being eligible for SS. I CAN BUY MORE MATERIAL AND YARN!! WHoopee!!!! Unfortunately I don't think that is in my husbands plan. HA! So when I dream and don't look in the mirror I can still envision that 17 year old dancing on the beach to the Beach Boys and cruising with my sweetheart in a Corvette convertible. I guess that's what memories are for.
So I have been working and finishing up some applique blocks. Toook pic's of all the finished ones. Makes me feel like I accomplkished more so bear with me with the repeats pics. Six are finally done of the Tisket Tasket BOM by Bunny Hill. They are so darn cute. So here goes--enjoy. Oh, I just had to throw in a pic of Mr. Jackson. He's getting to be quite the big boy. Still a terror though. Until next time---Say Goodnight Gracie!

There's a ZOO in my backyard

Yep, It's unbelievable! We sit on the lanaii and just marvel at all the animals and varmits that live back there. Notice I said the lanaii--we totally stay inside and watch from there. Here's just a smattering of them. I heard noises one night last week and thought someone was in the backyard and going to break in. Dearest hubby got up and bravely turned on the porch light and there were seven deer calmly munching away on our grass.
Too hot here to do much. I keep on plugging away on my applique projects but they are going sooooo slow. I've been content to sit and read a few books and nap on the lanaii. I really have to get busy and FINISH something though. I bought some gorgeous yarn not too long ago and sat one night and wound it into balls. Bored with all my other projects--I think I've mentioned before I must be ADD or something. BUT-- I have searched high and low for my size 11 needles and have been having a senior moment because I can't find them anywhere. It's been a week of thinking and looking. Tomorrow I'm heading to the yarn shop and buy another pair. For sure they'll turn up next week. That's how come I have four pairs of size eights. It's not that I don't have a place for them.. Oh yes, a nice little box neatly filled with all sizes of crochet hooks and knitting needles. But it's the ADD thing--I have all these bags of unfinished projects with the needles still attached to the yarn all over the place. Stashed in all kinds of places so hubba bubba won't be wise to how big my stash is. I'm not sure why I worry about that. He doesn't seem to remember that I haven't produce a knitted garment in quite sometime. I think he's just thankful I'm happy with the stash and not totally crazy yet. Makes his like easier. So life goes on here in HOT Florida. Until next time--
Say goodnight Miss Gracie, I love you to the moon and back.

Rain,rain go away.

I'll most likely be tarred and feathered for that comment where I live. I know we are still in drought of some sorts but for crying out loud we didn't have to get it all at once and for days. Now it's just HUMID!!!! Bad hair days are here once again. And for this princess with fine hair it's a disaster. So I've been staying in the ac and going a little crazy. First I rearranged and sorted (nicer way to say I finally cleaned my MESS!) my sewing room. Made a trip to Home Goods for some cute containers to hide the mess. Looks pretty good don't you think!

Then I started making a darling checkbook cover and credit card case----got a little carried away. Think they are going to be stocking stuffers this year. Finally finished a block for our opportunity quilt for my applique guild. Sorry, I don't think I can post that as no one has seen any of it yet. Of course, you can mark your calendars for Nov 2010 for our spectacular quilt show here in Tampa. It will debut there. If this quilt is anything like the last one that a member designed no less, it might be another winner at Paducah. These women are superior needlewomen. I was very honored to be asked to work on this block and I have to say more than a little nervous. It really stretched my abilities.
So that's pretty much it for me this week. The grandchild is coming tomorrow for a few days. School's out and camp doesn't start until next week so he's coming to be spoiled by gramma and papa. My freezer is full of his favorite ice cream and the pantry has his favorite mac and cheese and the salad drawer in filled for me. So until next time---Say Goodnight Miss Gracie!

And times goes on.

Still raining here in "sunny"Florida. We need it so desparately so it's not a complaint. Went last week to Anna Maria Island to visit a friend vacationing for a week and she wasn't impressed with our drought situation. Poor thing, she could only look and dream of those beach walks from her perch on the lanaii. Maybe next time,S. The birds and alligators are extremely happy as now they can frolic and swim lazily in the ponds around the golf course and not sit on my neighbors porch.
I've been sewing away on a quilt that I'm donating to my grandsons school in the fall for their annual gala. Had every intention to take a picture and post it but I had a senior moment and packaged it for the mail to the quilter and remembered at the post office. So I promise to post one when it returns. Besides it will look much better then anyway.
So that's it for me this week. I know--boring--but, who know, with this rain I actually might finish something else and POST it this week. So until then ---Goodnight Gracie!

Been waaaayyyy too long!

Yep, don't know where the time goes. I had good intentions about blogging but can't think of a good reason why I haven't. Sometimes life just gets in the way. Haven't even accomplished much in the way of sewing. Made a cute purse. It's going to be my new Disney bag. Small and all I need fits in it. Pattern also includes another size, and a change purse. Gotta do that yet. Also received my three quilts back from Karen my quilter. She did a fabulous job as usual. The red, white and black is for my niece's new baby. The basket quilt is made with my scraps and Jackson seems to love it as much as me. He is such a little stinker. Howard has finally given in and become friends. Harry still thinks he is the King of the Castle and remains on his throne and the other two stay out of his way.
Hot and sticky here with no end in sight until maybe the end of September. So it's time for me to hole up in my sewing room and sew till I drop. Not like I don't have enough there to keep me busy. Maybe next post you'll finally see some progress. In the meantime--Say goodnight,Gracie --I love you to the moon and back.

Fabric Friday

Look what the postman brought today. I did a little shopping on Super Buzzy. They are going in my 30's fabric collection for my next quilt.
And I can't decide which one to make out of Sandy Klop's new book but I'm thinking the cover one might be first. Her Y seam directions make it look so easy. I keep admiring them but they'll have to wait until next week. Tomorrow is the BIG 40th Anniversary for hubby and me. It sure went by fast! Okay, I know I'm sounding like an old person! LOL!

Ho Hum Tuesday

Quiet this week. Grandkids went home on Sunday so I've just been putzing around and taking a few pictures. The Jasmine scent wafting through the door is heavenly. My Mandavilla is growing up the arbor at last and in spite of the severe drought my flowers are still alive.

Our new kitty, Jackson, is making himself right at home. Howard is starting to actually like him and I found them sleeping on my bed together last evening. Harry is being his usual stubborn self and has made the guest room his own and just sits and pouts. Our own divine Miss Marisa is estactic that Jackson loves her. She dragged him around and he never once scratched her. Oh, before I forget--take a look on my sidebar and click on my favorite guy for a tune or two. I've had a crush on Rod forever and couldn't resist sharing my blog with him. Until next time--Good night Gracie--I love you to the moon and back!

Went to the big sale at my local quilt shop and found some treasures to share. Started a collection of fat quarters for anothe applique quilt that I purchased from Quilters Newsletter. It's a Mariner's Compass (which frightens me to death to sew) but the borders are so darn gorgeous I have to try it. Of course, I couldn't stop there because they just happened to have some nice shabby chic fabrics that had my name written all over them so they came home with me also. Take a peek!

There's more----I also stopped at Home Goods. I LOVE THAT STORE! Found some cute Shabby Chic items on the clearance aisle that I couldn't say no to.

I saved the best for last! My good friend is moving next month and cleaning out her house. She gave me a handmade crochetted bedspread that was made by her mother in law during WWII. I really love this! It's going in my guest room with all my grandmothers stuff. So that's it for today. No more shopping until I finish some of this stuff.

It's a miracle!!!!!

It\
Had to show you my daughter finally sewing at my machine. Took nearly thirty years but I might have a successor yet.

Finally finished my Sharon Stroud block. All ready to be hand quilted. I'm even trying a new quilt stand of my friend's. Something has to work! I have a mental block when it comes to hand quiting.

I actually figured out how to put the quilt in the frame! There's hope yet!
